My opinion on most of it has been "hey, lookit all the people talking!" but I'm inclined to agree with you. Martin, in particular, has a right to his emotional reaction, but I think he's being hypocritical to say he hates the idea of people writing OCs in his world after licensing an RPG or that it's different because he gets to edit even when he's writing other peoples' characters and even real people.
He was a hell of a lot more reasonable about it than a lot of people (on both sides) but in the end, he can ask me to take his opinions into account but I don't actually have to care.
(And it's totally academic since I don't care for the Ice and Fire books, but still.)
