We have similar tastes in books, I think. I love YA (reading and writing) and have been reading primarily YA recently. So I wanted to make a recommendation... which isn't YA. *laughs*
You love The Stand. Have you read Swansong by Robert R. McCammon? Also post-apocalyptic and really really really good. I read it years ago when friends of mine illustrated a special edition of it. Anyway, I had to mention it, because it isn't anywhere near as well knows as King's work, of course, and I love introducing folks to it.
And I'm babbling becuse it's way too early in the morning for me to be coherent, and I should go get on the road to work...
