A snippet from Rotti's funeral, Pavi's POV.

Amber in a knee-length skirt with her hair covered seemed like the most ridiculous thing ever, and Pavi wondered at the mercurial nature of a god that would create a creature like his sister and then demand modesty and chastity from her. He smirked at the thought.

On his other side, Luigi shifted again. As chastened as their father's death had left him, demanding that Luigi Largo sit still for an hour while someone intoned nonsense was still as ridiculous as - as modest Amber, Pavi supposed. They were all victims of this funeral farce. Pavi was fairly certain his brother hadn't set foot in a church since Carmela's First Holy Communion.

She'd worn a veil then, too; garbed in white and seven-year-old solemnity, like some sort of infant Bride of Christ kneeling to take her bridegroom in her mouth - and that was a thought much more appropriate to the woman beside him now, veiled in black this time. White for weddings, for purity; black for funerals, for sluts. He snickered, and Luigi elbowed him in the ribs. Pavi pouted at him, and Luigi glared and shifted position again.

"Cut it out," Amber hissed, glaring over at both of them. "Can't you two behave for ten minutes?"

"I'm being a fucking angel," Luigi muttered. "He's the one laughing at Pop's funeral."

"I'm not taking sides, Luigi, just shut up and leave him the fuck alone, okay?" Amber turned back to the priest, and Pavi contented himself with thinking about other sorts of things his sister could kneel to take in her mouth.
